On October 1st, 2017, the Eldridge Housing Code went into effect. While the property condition and maintenance portions of the housing code apply to all residential buildings, it also requires rental dwelling units to have rental permits and landlords must register so that appropriate contact can be made when necessary.
While the cost of registration is $20 per unit and renewable every 2 years, all applications received prior to January 1st, 2018 will have the fees waived. Applications received on or after January 1st, 2018 will be required to submit the appropriate fees. Unfortunately, there can be no exceptions to this fee policy.
Inspections of rental units are not required at this time, but can be performed at the request of a tenant or landlord and will be scheduled following processes outlined by Iowa law. The City of Eldridge does not mediate conflicts between landlords and tenants.
Beginning October 1st, 2017, it is unlawful for any operator to lease, let, rent or otherwise allow occupancy of a residential property, dwelling or unit without a rental permit and landlord registration, regardless of monetary exchange.
